New Large-Scale 3D Printers at Paderborn University

The current size of 3D printer is mostly limited to a size of 20 x 20 x 20 cm³, so not all tasks and target fields could be served within the project. A request for an increase made new purchases possible, with a volume of approximately 100,000 €. Two new machines of the BigRep company, from Berlin are now property of the Paderborn University. The BigRep ONE is the first printer in serial production with a build size of 1 x 1 x 1 m³. The possibility to print two materials at the same time opens up further fields of application. The second printer is the BigRep STUDIO with a volume of 100 x 50 x 50 cm³. Like with the BigRep ONE it is possible to print two materials.

With the printer new research and application fields open up, especially in the field of the daily aids. Products such as ramps, individualised steps, seat shells and many other applications can now be created.

The successful commissioning of both printers were carried out on September 31th, 2019.

The research project prevailed within the framework of the research program "Innovation for tomorrow's production, services and work" of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in the competition for "Personal Services". The project is funded by the BMBF in the period from October 2018 to September 2021 under the funding code 02K17A070 ff.
